Troubleshooting Guide: Difficulty Uploading Videos on Canvas

Welcome to the troubleshooting guide for resolving video upload issues on Canvas. We understand that encountering problems while uploading videos can be frustrating, but we're here to help you get through it. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue and successfully submit your video assignment.

Step 1: Browser and File Requirements

Ensure you are using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser. These browsers are optimized for Canvas and will provide the best uploading experience.

Confirm that the video file you are trying to upload is under 500MB in size. Canvas has a file size limit, and exceeding this limit might lead to upload failures.

Check the compatibility of your video file format with Canvas. Review the list of supported media file types and restrictions in the Canvas Student Guide: Supported Media Files in Canvas.

Step 2: Clear Cache and Cookies

Clearing your browser's cache and cookies can often resolve issues related to website functionality. Follow these steps to clear cache and cookies in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox:

Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, select "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," then click "Clear data."

Mozilla Firefox: Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, choose "Cookies" and "Cache," and then click "Clear Now."

Once you've cleared the cache and cookies, refresh the Canvas page and attempt the upload again.

Step 3: Test in Another Browser

If the issue persists after clearing cache and cookies, try using a different browser. Sometimes, browser-specific issues can affect the upload process. Refer to Step 1 for the recommended browsers.

Log in to Canvas using the alternative browser and attempt the upload again.

Step 4: Check Network Speed

Slow or unstable internet connections can result in upload failures or prolonged upload times. Make sure you have a stable and reasonably fast internet connection.

If you notice that the upload progress is stuck and you don't see the green progress bar moving, your internet speed might be causing the problem.

Final Step: Successful Upload

After completing the above steps, attempt the video upload again. If everything was done correctly, you should be able to upload your video assignment without any further issues. If the problem still persists, consider reaching out to your institution's technical support team for further assistance.

We hope this troubleshooting guide has helped you resolve the difficulty you were experiencing while uploading videos on Canvas. If you encounter any other issues or have additional questions, feel free to seek further assistance from your institution's Canvas support or technical team.

Thank you for your patience, and we wish you success with your video assignments!
